Bronck Museum Curators Tour - “Bits and Pieces”

Friday, September 19, 2025 (2:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

On Friday, September 19 at 2PM the Bronck Museum will offer the third Curator’s Tour of 2025 aptly titled “Bits and Pieces,” a discussion and exhibit of quilts from the museum’s permanent collection dating from the 1770s to 1900.

Besides the obvious practical function of adding warmth to the early American bed, quilts had other perhaps less well-known aspects. A quilt served as a display of the maker’s aesthetic and needlework skills. They provided evidence of the family’s relative wealth and the extent of the maker’s family and community connections. Often the choice of quilt patterns had magical, protective or even political significance. Quilts, like most objects produced by any society, provide interesting and sometimes unexpected insights into the long-gone world where they originated.

Reservations are requested and seating is limited. To reserve your seat, visit www.gchistory.org/2025-curator-tours. Admission to Curator’s tours is $25. For additional information call the museum at 518-731-6490. The Bronck Museum is located at 90 County Route 42, Coxsackie, NY.
